# Bangladesh payments: local checkout and BDT fees

Customers look for a familiar way to pay. Businesses need a confirmed order, clear costs and funds in the agreed account. In Bangladesh, these questions belong in the same comparison: the mobile-payment journey, fees, payouts and settlement requirements.

Many payment methods are connected to PayStar. Anastasia can clarify available options for your project in Bangladesh and provide details on fees, limits and settlement. A method named in this guide does not automatically approve a business or guarantee connection.

## How many offers are in the snapshot?

The historical gateway snapshot of **14 September 2026** contains **88 Bangladesh-only offers: 46 collection and 42 payout records**. Repeated rows are deduplicated by offer identifier.

![Recorded offers by direction](assets/en/offers.svg)

This is a record count, not 88 providers, connected methods or operating routes. A gateway can describe several payment methods and sets of terms. A useful enquiry starts with the customer journey and payment direction you need, rather than catalogue size.

## Fees: start with a complete calculation

The mean stated BDT percentage component is **5.94% for collections (n=38)** and **2.71% for payouts (n=33)**. Eligible records have BDT as their fee currency and a numeric percentage corroborated by a single distinct percentage in the original text. Eight collection records and nine payout records do not meet that criterion.

The same sample has a median of **6% for collections** and **2.5% for payouts**, with stated percentage-component ranges of **3–8.5%** and **1–4.5%**, respectively. The median describes the middle of the sample; the range shows its minimum and maximum. Neither establishes an available tariff.

![Percentage component · BDT](assets/en/fees.svg)

Each eligible record has equal weight. This is an average of a specific sample, not market pricing or a PayStar tariff. Fixed charges, FX, refunds, reserves and other expenses are excluded.

**Educational example, not gateway terms.** If tariff A is “5% + BDT 10” and B is “4% + BDT 40”, a BDT 1,000 payment costs BDT 60 and BDT 80 respectively. At BDT 3,000, both cost BDT 160. At BDT 5,000, the costs are BDT 260 and BDT 240. Even a one-percentage-point difference is inconclusive without the fixed component and transaction-size mix.

Request calculations at several typical order values, then add payout, FX, refund and reserve costs. Establish which charges also apply to an incomplete payment.

## Mobile payments and Bangla QR

Historical records include labels such as bKash, Nagad, Rocket and UPay. They are provider statements, not evidence of direct PayStar agreements with those brands or current availability. What matters is a permitted merchant-payment arrangement, its contract and transaction confirmation, alongside the recognisable customer experience.

Bangladesh Bank regulates MFS and separately licenses PSPs/PSOs. Domestic mobile payments and cross-border transfers follow different rules. BB's MFS overview prohibits cross-border transfers while permitting local disbursement of inward remittances through banking channels. This does not authorise arbitrary overseas remittance of merchant revenue. [Bangladesh Bank: payment systems and MFS](https://www.bb.org.bd/en/index.php/financialactivity/paysystems).

From 1 October 2026, Bangladesh Bank PSD-1 Circular No. 05 of 17 September 2026 requires funds from all Bangla QR payments to be credited immediately to the relevant merchant account. Ask the provider how the requirement applies to your arrangement and for evidence of implementation: the rule alone does not demonstrate a particular gateway’s performance. [Bangladesh Bank: PSD-1 Circular No. 05](https://www.bb.org.bd/mediaroom/circulars/psd/sep172026psd-105.pdf).

In a pilot, test paying on the same phone, returning to the shop, delayed confirmation and order matching. A customer receipt or screenshot should not replace confirmation from the provider.

## Settlement: from order status to merchant funds

A settlement-period field is present in **43 of the 46** collection records and absent in **3**. This measures completeness of the description, not actual settlement speed.

![Settlement-term completeness](assets/en/settlement.svg)

A short timing label does not establish the currency, cutoff, reserve conditions or recipient. Before launch, agree in writing when the payment becomes final, when the business can use the funds and how weekends, refunds and disputes affect the process.

For Bangla QR, clarify how merchant settlement relates to your gateway agreement and reconciliation. For cross-border settlement, separately verify the permitted banking route and underlying payment documents. USDT or another virtual currency in an old record is not permission to use that arrangement; this guide does not offer it.

## Conversion and payouts: ask for observable statuses

The source contains no comparable measured conversion dataset. It cannot support a “Bangladesh average conversion” claim. For a chosen method, record attempts, authorisation handoffs, successful transactions, expiries and retries. Specify the denominator and the confirmation window.

For payouts, test beneficiary mismatches, invalid details, account limits and unresolved statuses. A constructed batch of 25 payments of BDT 2,000 totals BDT 50,000. If 24 complete, BDT 48,000 is confirmed and BDT 2,000 remains unresolved. This is a reconciliation example, not gateway performance. Check the final result before retrying to avoid duplicate payments.

## Bangladesh licensing and restrictions

This legal overview was updated on **1 October 2026**. Check the counterparty's Bangladesh Bank authorisation, permitted services and conditions for handling customer money. A payment company's approval does not replace the merchant's right to sell a particular product. Documentation, beneficial ownership and source-of-funds checks remain part of approval. [BB: regulatory guidelines](https://www.bb.org.bd/en/index.php/about/guidelist).

The **Gambling Prevention Act 2026**, dated 1 July, prohibits online gambling and betting. Section 14 covers related money transfers, and section 39 provides for court-ordered closure of payment accounts used for gambling. An overseas licence does not override local prohibitions. [Official legislation](https://bdlaws.minlaw.gov.bd/act-print-1727.html).

Bangladesh Bank also instructs parties to refrain from virtual-asset dealings and facilitation, with related restrictions on bank assistance. This guide offers neither crypto settlement nor a way around those requirements. [BB: virtual-asset restrictions, printed page 163](https://www.bb.org.bd/aboutus/regulationguideline/prudregapr2024.pdf).

## PayStar’s role

PayStar helps obtain comparable payment-method terms: fees and limits, settlement timing and currency, and product and documentation requirements. The technical scope is agreed separately after a suitable option is selected.

PayStar is not a payment organiser, bank or payment operator. The merchant chooses the relevant licensed payment provider and contracts with it directly. That provider is responsible for its payment services, customer checks, receipt of funds and settlement.

PayStar works only with lawful products holding the licences required for their activities. A historical catalogue record does not establish approval of a particular product or onboarding availability. Information about options is free; connection, technical work and processing have separate terms.
