# Payment Providers in Chile: Cuotas, Merchant Funding and CLP Payouts

A customer choosing three instalments creates an important question for a merchant: when will the business receive the money? When comparing payment providers in Chile, ask for the funding schedule alongside the checkout demonstration. A successful card payment, an expected merchant credit and spendable money in the bank account are different milestones. Chile's card and transfer options also deserve separate evaluation. In its August 2026 payments report, the Central Bank describes growing everyday use of electronic transfers while noting that their use for merchant payments remains limited. A transfer feature should therefore be assessed against the actual purchase journey. Central Bank of Chile: 2026 payments report .

## A numerical starting point for the provider comparison

We reviewed **29 unique historical payment offers** linked only to this country: 19 collection offers and 10 payout offers. They provide a structured starting point for comparing payment costs, access to funds and operational requirements. 83 additional offers linked to several countries are excluded from the country-only calculations below.

The source is the PayStar export dated 14 September 2026, supplied by payment gateways. We recomputed its aggregates, but did not independently verify its commercial statements. This is a historical sample, not a market survey, a count of PSPs or methods, or proof of active connections and current availability. Conditions can change weekly or more often. Independent country, currency and method associations do not establish every possible payment route. Direction counts and settlement-label charts cover all recorded currencies. Only the percentage comparison below is restricted to explicit CLP fee records.

## What the recorded CLP percentage components show

We calculate the arithmetic mean of explicit percentage components stated in CLP, giving each comparable offer equal weight. A record qualifies only when its structured percentage matches one unambiguous percentage in the original fee description. Offers in another fee currency, missing percentages and ambiguous descriptions are excluded.

We also exclude bound or conditional percentages such as “from”, tiers and explicitly restricted customer categories. Exact nominal percentage components with fixed minimums or caps can remain in the sample; those minimums and caps still affect the final charge.

| Direction | n | Mean | Median | Range |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Collections | 17 | 4.8% | 5% | 2.5–8% |
| Payouts | 10 | 2.81% | 2.38% | 1.5–6% |

Explicit CLP percentage components only. n is the comparable sample in each direction; missing fees are excluded, not zero. [Download SVG](https://paystar.uk/chile-payment-solutions/media/2026-10-08-v2/charts/fees-en-desktop-download.svg)

**These are percentage components, not all-in payment prices.** Fixed charges, FX, tax, reserves, minimums and charges for refunds or other exceptions must be assessed separately. This sample is not weighted by payment volume, contains no measured conversion rate and cannot rank provider quality. Small or insufficiently independent groups are withheld.

### A hypothetical payment calculation

Take an illustrative payment of 20,000 CLP; this is not a typical market ticket. Applying the rounded means shown above gives:

- Collections: 20,000 CLP × 4.8% = **960 CLP**.
- Payouts: 20,000 CLP × 2.81% = **562 CLP**.

Each line is a separate direction, not a combined service quote. The arithmetic shows only the percentage part. Ask for an actual quote at your ticket size, volume, business model and settlement currency before calculating net proceeds.

## When money becomes usable matters

Collection offers across all recorded currencies. T/D labels are recorded as supplied, without assuming calendar or business days. Other includes complex labels and pooled groups below 3 records. No guaranteed settlement time. [Download SVG](https://paystar.uk/chile-payment-solutions/media/2026-10-08-v2/charts/timing-en-desktop-download.svg)

A successful payment notification and money available to your business are different events. Treat recorded settlement labels as questions for a provider: what starts the clock, which cut-off applies, are weekends counted, which account is credited, and can a reserve or review delay availability?

For payouts, agree prefunding, beneficiary validation, rejection handling and how returned funds appear in your balance. An incoming-payment settlement label does not prove payout completion time.

### A cash-buffer planning example

If a business must fund 2,000,000 CLP of obligations per day, a one-day gap requires 2,000,000 CLP; a three-day gap requires 6,000,000 CLP. The additional buffer is 4,000,000 CLP. This is a hypothetical constant-flow model, excluding fees, reserves and volatility, not an observed settlement promise.

## Compare the instalment product, not just the number of cuotas

Official Webpay SDK documentation distinguishes card payment types and provides separate fields for the instalment count and amount. Those fields describe the purchase; they do not establish the merchant's funding schedule. Ask whether the proposed product is an issuer instalment arrangement or a merchant plan, which cards and enabled options it supports, and when each merchant credit occurs. Confirm the terms for that product rather than applying one provider's arrangement to every offer. [Official Webpay SDK reference](https://proyecto-ejemplo-php.transbankdevelopers.cl/api-reference/webpay-plus).

The customer-facing offer needs its own check. Chile's financial regulator advises cardholders to establish who provides an instalment benefit and whether the quoted price changes. For a merchant, that makes the wording shown before confirmation part of the acceptance review. [CMF: credit cards](https://www.cmfchile.cl/educa/621/w3-propertyvalue-29047.html).

Ask each shortlisted provider to complete a simple comparison:

| Decision | Evidence to request |
| --- | --- |
| What can the customer choose? | Enabled card types, instalment products and the actual checkout wording |
| When does the merchant receive money? | Contracted credit dates, cut-offs and treatment of non-business days |
| How much arrives? | Gross sale, fees, deductions and the corresponding bank credit |
| What changes after a return? | Refund eligibility and the resulting adjustment to future merchant credits |

The useful answer is a worked transaction and its settlement report, rather than a checkbox labelled “instalments supported”.

## Test a partial return before offering instalments

Check refund handling for the exact instalment product before promising a customer a particular process. Ask whether full and partial returns are permitted, which conditions apply after the merchant has already received funds, and how a return changes future merchant credits. Request the provider's current written rules and a worked example for the selected arrangement.

Give operations a test covering a full return and a partial return. Record the original order, refund request, provider result and adjusted balance. Ask what evidence customer support can use when a request is accepted but the cardholder has not yet seen the credit. The API reference illustrates why the result matters: refund responses identify the operation type and, where applicable, the cancelled amount and remaining balance. [Official Webpay refund reference](https://proyecto-ejemplo-php.transbankdevelopers.cl/api-reference/webpay-plus).

## A hypothetical funding example

Consider an invented retailer selling a CLP 120,000 order in three customer instalments. Suppose one proposal credits the merchant's net proceeds together, while another credits them over three agreed dates. Ignore fees, taxes and adjustments for this illustration: the second arrangement would provide CLP 40,000 on each date.

Both checkout screens can show three instalments. The retailer's available cash before the second and third credit dates would differ. If suppliers must be paid earlier, that difference belongs in the provider comparison alongside the processing fee.

Now assume a CLP 30,000 partial return. The remaining order value is CLP 90,000, but that arithmetic does not establish whether a partial card refund is supported or how future credits will change. Ask the provider to demonstrate the permitted operation and its reconciliation entries. These invented amounts are a planning exercise, not a customer case or a quotation.

## Qualify CLP business payouts separately

Money credited to a merchant from card sales is not the same service as sending a CLP payment to a supplier or customer. The Central Bank describes retail payment systems as supporting transfers between individuals and businesses through several instruments; that description does not establish a particular provider's business-payout capabilities. [Central Bank: payment systems](https://www.bcentral.cl/areas/sistemas-de-pagos).

For payouts, request confirmation of permitted purposes, beneficiary types, account information, funding arrangements, limits and the evidence returned when a payment fails. Test a rejected beneficiary as well as a successful payment. Agree who investigates a missing credit and whether resubmitting a request can create a second payment.

Specify the merchant's contracting entity and country of incorporation. Ask which entity signs the agreement, which business account receives settlement and whether any currency conversion or international movement of funds is required. CLP support alone does not answer those questions or establish access for a foreign company.

## The role of PayStar

PayStar provides information for comparing payment solutions and, where agreed, a technical layer for connecting and operating them. PayStar is not a bank or payment service provider and does not accept, hold or settle customer or business funds in its own name.

You select the payment provider and enter into a direct agreement with it. The provider processes payments and performs settlement under that agreement. Local eligibility, required authorisations and commercial terms must be confirmed for your company and use case. A method described in this article is not a promise that it is available through PayStar for your business.

Information about payment options is free. Payment processing and any agreed technical services have separate commercial terms.
