# Payments in Egypt: fees, wallets and EGP settlement

Choose how to collect payments from Egyptian customers and make payouts with a clearer view of transaction costs. This guide brings together stated fees, settlement labels and practical questions for comparing gateway terms before integration.

The starting point is **60 offer records associated only with Egypt**, in a saved snapshot dated **14 September 2026**. Use the range of recorded terms to prepare a provider request around your product, average transaction value and volume.

## 60 offers: define the payment journey first

The sample contains **32 pay-in offers and 28 payout offers**. These are offer records, not independent payment gateways or active integrations. One provider may have several offers.

An online shop needs reliable payment confirmation linked to the order. A service making regular payouts needs beneficiary details, account eligibility and clear handling of returned payments. These are different requirements even when both use Egyptian pounds.

Start with who pays, who receives the funds and what the payment is for. Then compare methods and tariffs. Country, currency and method associations in the source catalogue are independent: their presence does not establish an available combination for your business.

## Fees: what remains after the transaction

The mean stated percentage component is **6.16% for pay-ins** across 32 EGP fee records and **3.39% for payouts** across 28 records. These are simple averages across offers, not volume-weighted figures. The chart shows medians and ranges.

For a cost illustration, consider an **EGP 1,000** payment: a 6% component costs EGP 60. If a separate EGP 1,000 payout is agreed at 3%, its percentage component costs another EGP 30. This is a teaching example of two transactions, not a PayStar tariff or available bundled offer.

The structured fields in this sample contain no positive fixed charges. That **does not establish that additional costs are absent**. Request a complete calculation covering minimum charges, FX, settlement currency, reserves, refunds and bank costs. The cover averages describe different groups of records; the adjacent T+0 label does not combine them into one offer.

## Settlement: when funds become available to your business

**T+0/D+0 appears in 16 of the 32 pay-in records**, T+1/D+1 in six and T+3/D+3 in four. One record has another condition, while five do not state a timeframe. These are saved provider labels, not a verified payout schedule.

For cash-flow planning, agree the T/D trigger, cut-off time, business or calendar days, minimum settlement amount and actual destination account. Ask separately which funds may be held and when those holds are released.

Instant transfer confirmation for a customer and funds becoming available to a merchant are different events. A useful daily reconciliation distinguishes payment confirmed, funds eligible for settlement, and funds credited to the agreed account. This makes cash-flow planning more reliable than interpreting T+0 on its own.

## Wallet, QR or InstaPay: check the complete payment path

Egypt has mobile-wallet acceptance journeys: the CBE describes static or dynamic QR and Request to Pay, including QR displayed on a merchant website or app. For your checkout, ask to see payment confirmation and refunds as well as the method name. [CBE: Mobile Payment Acceptance](https://www.cbe.org.eg/en/payment-systems-and-services/payment-services/payment-acceptance/mobile-payment-acceptance).

InstaPay is an app for transfers over the Instant Payment Network. Its official FAQ describes transfers to bank accounts, IPA addresses and wallets. This does not establish that a selected gateway offers a commercial acceptance API or that a personal account may be used to collect business payments. Agree merchant acceptance separately. [InstaPay: questions and answers](https://www.instapay.eg/?lang=en&page_id=348).

A practical test starts with an order: pay from a phone, receive server-side confirmation, match amount and reference, then test a cancelled and a pending transaction. For QR, also check how a customer pays using the same device that displays the shop. These methods describe market context; each provider's actual availability needs confirmation.

## Limits and conversion: ask for measurable terms

Per-transaction limits are recorded in **29 of the 32 pay-in offers** and **23 of the 28 payout offers**. Confirm the minimum and maximum for your method, daily and monthly limits, beneficiary requirements and how limits change as volume grows. Consumer app limits do not automatically apply to a commercial agreement.

There is no verified average conversion rate in the source. Six gateway claims in free text lack comparable verified transaction statistics, so they are excluded from any average.

Request successful payments as a share of created attempts over the same period, split by method, device and transaction size. Agree how retries, incomplete payments and bank declines are counted. A small pilot using your traffic is more useful than a general promise of high conversion.

## Licences and requirements in Egypt

The CBE rules issued in June 2025 under Law No. 194/2020 govern permissions for payment systems and services, including institutions outside Egypt serving its customers. A foreign licence alone does not establish compliance with Egyptian requirements. Check the legal entity, current authorisation and covered services. [CBE: PSO and PSP licensing rules](https://www.cbe.org.eg/en/payment-systems-and-services/payment-systems-and-services-oversight/psos-and-psps-licensing-rules).

A payment institution's permission does not replace the merchant product's required permissions. Prepare company, ownership, business-activity and payment-purpose information; the servicing party must confirm the documents and model it can accept. A historical catalogue record is not evidence of licensing or approval.

The CBE separately warns about cryptocurrency restrictions. The distinction matters: Article 206 of Law No. 194/2020 includes a CBE licensing condition; the May 2024 MENAFATF report also describes a prohibition on the relevant activities under CBE Decision No. 1006/2023. Ordinary PSP licensing should therefore not be assumed to make crypto settlement available. This guide does not offer it; a specific model requires a current legal assessment. [CBE: warning](https://www.cbe.org.eg/en/news-publications/news/2022/09/12/warning-statement), [MENAFATF: Egypt report, paragraph 25](https://menafatf.org/sites/default/files/Newsletter/Third%20Enhanced%20Follow-up%20Report%20for%20the%20Arab%20Republic%20of%20Egypt.pdf).

For cross-border settlement, agree the servicing bank, currency, payment purpose and supporting documents in advance. A domestic EGP payment does not guarantee conversion or an outward transfer. Check current requirements for the parties, product and route before launch; this guide is not a legal opinion.

## PayStar's role: from comparing terms to technical integration

PayStar provides information on payment options and technology for integration. **PayStar is not a payment organiser**: the relevant provider collects, processes and settles payments under its direct agreement with the business.

PayStar works only with lawful products holding the licences and permissions required for their activity and territory. This cooperation policy does not mean that every historical offer in the guide has undergone an independent licensing check.

The discussion can compare methods, tariff structures and integration requirements. Final commercial terms, availability and approval are determined separately after the business is assessed.

## About the data and sources

Commercial figures use a saved snapshot dated **14 September 2026**. The data was supplied by payment gateways without independent verification by PayStar. Conditions change weekly or more often and may already be outdated. Averages describe only the stated percentage component, not total cost or a market average. The cover highlights figures explained inside the guide; it is not a single tariff offer. Legal sources were reviewed on 29 September 2026; variable rules must be checked again before publication and launch. AI illustrations are editorial artwork. Availability, the legality of a specific product and provider terms require separate confirmation.
