For a subscription business comparing payment providers in Brazil, the useful question is what happens after a customer agrees to recurring payments. Can your team distinguish a valid authorization, a scheduled charge and money actually received? Can it explain a missed collection without charging the customer twice?

Pix Automático makes this a practical selection criterion. A provider's general Pix offering needs a separate assessment for recurring collections, including customer permissions, changing invoices and payment results. BRL payouts need their own assessment too.

What our Brazil offer review shows

PayStar's offer snapshot dated 14 September 2026 contains 44 unique offers linked exclusively to Brazil: 22 labelled Deposit and 22 Withdrawal. All 44 have BRL and Pix labels. These are offers, not counts of independent providers. The wider Brazil-linked set contains 116 unique offers, including 72 that also reference other geographies.

Country, currency and payment-method labels were recorded independently. They help identify questions for a shortlist; they do not establish every possible payment route. In particular, a Pix label does not confirm Pix Automático support, current availability or acceptance of your business.

Define the recurring payment you need

Banco Central do Brasil distinguishes Pix Automático, where a business receives authorization to submit recurring charges, from Pix Agendado, where the payer schedules payments. The business specifies agreed amounts and dates for Pix Automático; amounts may be fixed or variable. BCB: Pix Automático and Pix Agendado.

Describe your billing model before requesting a quote. A fixed membership, a usage-based invoice and an annual renewal create different operational questions. Specify when invoices become final, how customers approve changes, and what your service does while an invoice remains unpaid.

BCB's merchant guidance separates choosing an institution, checking implementation requirements, configuring recurrence, obtaining authorization and scheduling charges. It also tells businesses to confirm the contracted institution's fees. Treat these as distinct items in your provider comparison. BCB: Pix Automático for recipients.

Pix Automático requires an eligible receiving legal entity with an active CNPJ. Confirm with the receiving PSP which entity will contract, hold the account and receive funds, and whether your business and settlement arrangement qualify. A general Pix offer does not establish Pix Automático access. BCB participant FAQ, section 1.4. Have the provider confirm the arrangement for your company and activity before planning an integration.

Compare evidence at each billing stage

Ask each candidate to demonstrate the same subscription from enrolment through an unsuccessful collection and recovery. The following are merchant evaluation questions, not a claim that every PSP exposes identical tools.

Billing stage Evidence to request
Customer permission A retrievable authorization reference, its current status and the terms the customer accepted.
Invoice submission A link between the invoice, its billing period and the charge submitted to the provider.
Scheduling A clear answer on whether the charge was scheduled, rejected or still awaiting a result.
Payment outcome Confirmation of the amount received, or a reason and next permitted action if collection did not complete.
Cancellation Confirmation of the change and which pending charges, if any, still require attention.

Evaluate how those answers reach support and finance, as well as developers. An export that joins the authorization, invoice and final payment is more useful for a billing investigation than a list of successful transactions alone. Ask for a sample containing an exception, with customer details anonymized.

Test a changing subscription amount

Consider a hypothetical variable subscription: last month's bill was BRL 100, the next is BRL 130, and the customer set a BRL 120 maximum. BCB's participant FAQ says a payment exceeding the payer's configured maximum is not scheduled; the payer is notified and may revise it. BCB participant FAQ, section 7.3.

Use that example in a provider demonstration. What does your billing team see, and when? Who contacts the customer? If another payment option is offered, how does the team establish whether the original collection can still proceed? Agree a recovery process that preserves one invoice balance across attempts.

Also test cancellation before the next bill. Ask the provider to explain its timing rules and demonstrate the resulting records. Your customer subscription, payment permission and invoice should each have a clear status, so support can resolve the customer's actual request.

Separate refunds from BRL payouts

For a refund, start with proof of the original receipt. BCB's guidance on mistaken Pix transfers advises checking the account statement and using the refund function, which returns funds to the payer's original account. BCB: Pix refund guidance.

Ask the PSP how a merchant refund is linked to the original transaction, how its completion is confirmed and how it appears in reports. Evaluate a separate outbound payout as a different operation.

For BRL payouts to suppliers or other business recipients, specify the purpose and recipient category. Ask which account details or Pix identifiers are accepted, how recipient identity is checked, what confirmation is returned, and what happens if the transfer fails. Confirm funding requirements and limits for that payout service; collection support alone does not answer those questions.

Finance should also compare gross receipts, fees, refunds, funds available for use and transfers to the merchant's own account. Request a worked statement for one billing period and confirm the settlement currency, account and timing. These are commercial terms to establish with the PSP. Connecting those records is part of a useful reconciliation process.

Build a Brazil shortlist around your billing model

Share your company location, business activity, billing frequency, typical amounts, monthly volumes and payout requirements with PayStar Discovery. Discovery helps structure the research, qualify a PSP shortlist and arrange introductions. You choose the provider and contract with it directly; the PSP processes payments and settles funds under that agreement.
