A customer choosing three instalments creates an important question for a merchant: when will the business receive the money? When comparing payment providers in Chile, ask for the funding schedule alongside the checkout demonstration. A successful card payment, an expected merchant credit and spendable money in the bank account are different milestones.

Chile's card and transfer options also deserve separate evaluation. In its August 2026 payments report, the Central Bank describes growing everyday use of electronic transfers while noting that their use for merchant payments remains limited. A transfer feature should therefore be assessed against the actual purchase journey. Central Bank of Chile: 2026 payments report.

What our Chile inventory tells you

PayStar's 14 September 2026 snapshot contains 29 unique recorded payment offers linked only to Chile. They provide a starting point for discussing collection and payout requirements. They are not 29 independent providers, active integrations or approved routes.

The underlying records associate countries, currencies and payment methods separately. Those associations do not establish every possible combination, including support for a particular instalment product. Availability, merchant eligibility and commercial terms require confirmation for the intended business.

Compare the instalment product, not just the number of cuotas

Official local documentation demonstrates why the distinction matters. In the described card products, issuer instalments and merchant instalment plans can produce different merchant credit schedules. The selected card and the merchant's enabled options also affect the available payment types. These are product-specific examples, not terms shared by every provider. Official Webpay product documentation.

The customer-facing offer needs its own check. Chile's financial regulator advises cardholders to establish who provides an instalment benefit and whether the quoted price changes. For a merchant, that makes the wording shown before confirmation part of the acceptance review. CMF: credit cards.

Ask each shortlisted provider to complete a simple comparison:

Decision Evidence to request
What can the customer choose? Enabled card types, instalment products and the actual checkout wording
When does the merchant receive money? Contracted credit dates, cut-offs and treatment of non-business days
How much arrives? Gross sale, fees, deductions and the corresponding bank credit
What changes after a return? Refund eligibility and the resulting adjustment to future merchant credits

The useful answer is a worked transaction and its settlement report, rather than a checkbox labelled “instalments supported”.

Test a partial return before offering instalments

Refund handling can change with the original product. The cited Webpay documentation distinguishes partial cancellation eligibility between credit-card instalment categories. It also describes adjustments to later merchant credits when an already-funded sale is cancelled. Confirm the selected provider's current rules before promising a customer a particular refund process. Official refund restrictions.

Give operations a test covering a full return and a partial return. Record the original order, refund request, provider result and adjusted balance. Ask what evidence customer support can use when a request is accepted but the cardholder has not yet seen the credit. The API reference illustrates why the result matters: refund responses identify the operation type and, where applicable, the cancelled amount and remaining balance. A hypothetical funding example

Consider an invented retailer selling a CLP 120,000 order in three customer instalments. Suppose one proposal credits the merchant's net proceeds together, while another credits them over three agreed dates. Ignore fees, taxes and adjustments for this illustration: the second arrangement would provide CLP 40,000 on each date.

Both checkout screens can show three instalments. The retailer's available cash before the second and third credit dates would differ. If suppliers must be paid earlier, that difference belongs in the provider comparison alongside the processing fee.

Now assume a CLP 30,000 partial return. The remaining order value is CLP 90,000, but that arithmetic does not establish whether a partial card refund is supported or how future credits will change. Ask the provider to demonstrate the permitted operation and its reconciliation entries. These invented amounts are a planning exercise, not a customer case or a quotation.

Qualify CLP business payouts separately

Money credited to a merchant from card sales is not the same service as sending a CLP payment to a supplier or customer. The Central Bank describes retail payment systems as supporting transfers between individuals and businesses through several instruments; that description does not establish a particular provider's business-payout capabilities. Central Bank: payment systems.

For payouts, request confirmation of permitted purposes, beneficiary types, account information, funding arrangements, limits and the evidence returned when a payment fails. Test a rejected beneficiary as well as a successful payment. Agree who investigates a missing credit and whether resubmitting a request can create a second payment.

Specify the merchant's contracting entity and country of incorporation. Ask which entity signs the agreement, which business account receives settlement and whether any currency conversion or international movement of funds is required. CLP support alone does not answer those questions or establish access for a foreign company.

Turn the comparison into a shortlist

Send PayStar Discovery your business activity, contracting entity, intended checkout, average order value, instalment requirements and CLP payout use case. Include expected volumes and the operational questions that matter most to your team.

Discovery helps structure the research and qualification. The merchant chooses and contracts directly with the PSP; the PSP processes payments and settles under that agreement.
