Comparing payment providers in Colombia starts with the customer journey. A buyer paying through PSE, a customer scanning a merchant's Bre-B QR code and a business sending a COP payout create different requirements for authorization, order matching and payment evidence.
The useful question is what the proposed service will let your business complete and verify. Request a demonstration of the payment flow, its final status and the money movement before selecting a provider on the strength of a familiar method name.
What our Colombia offer review covers
PayStar's offer snapshot dated 14 September 2026 contains 52 unique records linked exclusively to Colombia: 32 labelled for incoming payments and 20 for outgoing payments. All 52 have a Colombian peso currency link. Each offer was counted once, excluding repeated export rows.
These are offer records, not 52 separate providers or approved integrations. Country, currency and method links alone do not confirm a specific payment route. The sample helps structure a shortlist; the provider still needs to confirm business eligibility, current availability and operating terms.
PSE: follow the checkout through to its final result
ACH Colombia describes PSE as an online payment service through which customers authorize a debit from a savings account, current account or electronic deposit using their financial institution's digital banking. Its merchant page describes collections credited to an account at a participating receiving institution. PSE customer guidance; PSE for businesses.
For PSE payment acceptance, ask the proposed PSP to demonstrate the complete journey on mobile: selection of the financial institution, authorization, return to the merchant and confirmation against the original order. Include abandonment and a customer returning after the checkout session expires.
The PSE customer FAQ publishes a maximum transaction processing time of 21 minutes. Treat that as information about the described service, and agree the actual status handling with your provider. A short checkout timer must not silently turn an unresolved payment into a failed one. PSE processing FAQ.
During evaluation, ask which result authorizes fulfilment, how that result can be retrieved if the customer closes the browser, and how a late success is matched to an expired order. Request the references and timestamps that support an investigation. This makes the checkout discussion useful to both product and operations teams.
Bre-B: qualify the merchant service around the payment
Banco de la República describes Bre-B as Colombia's interoperable immediate payments system, available through participating financial institutions' digital channels. Its guidance includes person-to-merchant payments using a registered key, known as a Llave, or a QR code. An institution-assigned merchant code is one available type of Llave. Banco de la República: Conozca Bre-B.
For a merchant, accepting a transfer is only part of the job. Ask how the service identifies the order, communicates the amount and confirms that the correct merchant received it. Establish whether the proposed QR is static or generated for the purchase, which information it carries, and what the PSP sends back to your system.
Consider a hypothetical store with two open orders, each for COP 100,000. Both customers pay the same merchant within a minute. An amount and a screenshot leave the store with a matching problem. Ask the provider to demonstrate how each payment is assigned to its own order and how an unmatched receipt is investigated. Evaluate the actual offered service; QR support alone does not answer this question.
Bre-B also involves a recipient check. The central bank's FAQ describes showing the recipient's masked name before confirmation. Request a checkout demonstration that makes the merchant identity clear, and establish how a reported wrong-recipient payment reaches the appropriate support team. Banco de la República: Bre-B FAQ.
Give COP payouts a separate qualification brief
Receiving Colombian peso payments does not establish that the same provider can send your business payouts. Define the recipient types, payment purpose, destination accounts or other supported destinations, and information available in your own records.
The central bank describes Bre-B as supporting domestic payments and transfers. That context does not establish an international settlement service or an automated payout API for your company. Confirm the proposed channel and its commercial scope directly. Bre-B FAQ.
Use a small set of operational questions:
- What recipient information is validated before funds are sent, and what happens when it does not match?
- Which reference and status establish the outcome, including a rejected or returned payout?
- How is an uncertain result investigated before another instruction is sent?
- Which transaction, daily and batch limits apply to your approved business account?
Ask for sample responses and reports using test data. A confirmed destination, an accepted instruction and a completed payout should be distinguishable in the evidence your team receives.
Compare the cash position as well as the checkout
PSE's business help centre states that financial institutions credit merchant collection accounts according to their own policies, procedures and schedules. Confirm the settlement arrangement in the actual PSP proposal, including its account requirements, deductions and cut-offs. PSE business help centre.
For each collection service, document where funds first arrive and when they become available to your business. For payouts, establish how the balance is funded and how rejected or returned payments affect it. If treasury needs another currency or a bank account outside Colombia, include that requirement from the start.
Request a sample report linking the customer order or payout instruction to the provider reference, final outcome, fees and account movement. That gives your finance team something concrete to assess for payment reconciliation.
Build a Colombia provider shortlist around your business
Share your company jurisdiction, business activity, intended PSE or Bre-B acceptance flow, COP payout requirements, transaction sizes, expected volumes and settlement needs with PayStar Discovery. We can use that brief to structure a PSP shortlist and identify the conditions to qualify before integration.
You choose the PSP and contract with it directly. The provider handles processing and settlement under that agreement. Discovery helps make the comparison and the remaining questions clear.
